The Development Centre opened in April 2004 and is building on the strengths of the former Northern Centre for Mental Health to improve the quality of life for all people of all ages who experience mental health problems. We serve one of the largest geographical areas of all eight development centres, with a population of almost seven and a half million people. Within our area there are a wide range of rural and urban communities, many different cultural communities and some of the country's most deprived areas.

Our Team

Our staff team is drawn from across the mental health community in the region from all stakeholder groups, organisations and localities. These include Associate posts, Locality Development Leads, Service Improvement Leads, Core Programme Leads (Acute inpatient, carer services development, older people, prison mental health care, race equality, service user development and workforce) and a central support team.

The majority of our work is split into 22 programme areas, which are detailed in our Strategic Direction and Work Programme 2004-2006.
